I created the Cafe Racer design above as a tribute to the return of the cafe racer.  From Hipster to Gramps, the cafe racer is back with the stripped down flat black (or whatever color you like) vintage bike.  The cafe racer scene began to boom because people wanted something that wasn’t a classic chopper, or high performance sport bike.  You also see the big time hipster movement bringing back the old style from clothes to mustaches and most importantly for this article, the cafe racer.

The modern Cafe Racer is typically built on older bikes.  A cafe racer is built from many old motorcycles such as the Honda cb 400, Honda cb 650, Honda cb 750 preferably from the 70’s to 80’s.  A cafe racer is also built from various Suzuki, Kawasaki, Moto Guzzi and many other brands and models from back in the day.  These older bikes are the perfect place to start.  From there, builders strip them down, tune them up, and add paint and upgraded parts to make them handle even better.  A Cafe Racer is easy to spot with their low, narrow handle bars and fairing on the back of a single seat.  These stripped down machines are back as artisans transform well used road bikes into modern day cafe racers.  Some of the big brands of today even bring out their own retro models.

The past five years has seen a huge increase in the number of artisan motorcycle builders around the world.  They are creating a modern day cafe racer from well used, often neglected road bikes built during the 1970s, 1980s and even the 1990s.  This era of motorcycles were generally well engineered and reliable.  They did not have the complicated electronics like the motorcycles of today. They still looked like motorcycles, with exposed air-cooled engines, analogue instruments, a lack of plastics and enough chrome.

Niche cafe racer companies like Blitz, Wrenchmonkees, Deus, Steel Bent Customs and Bare Bone Rides, have turned cafe racer building into an art form.  They work closely with their clients to create the cafe racer of their dreams.

Graphic Design Auburn Ca project integrating craft and technology to create six posters for Studio Six Pilates located in Auburn California.  These posters were designed with an emphasis on minimalism design.  They were inspired by the famous dictionary and definition of words.  This poster design project includes 6 posters in all describing the 6 key elements of Pilates including Breath, Centering, Concentration, Control, Flow, and Precision.

Each poster is designed with a stencil like silhouette of a Pilates move.  They are filled with a two color pattern to give them a little more contrast.  I bonded the craft paper prints to 3/4 inch Birch Plywood to give it a rustic crafty feel.  I then fastened them to the wall using 3/8 inch galvanized bolts and raising them out from the wall by one inch.

Each Craft Poster measures 22″ x 34″ and sealed for protection of the elements.

Advnt Design provides professional and progressive graphic design Auburn Ca.  One of my favorite types of businesses to design for are boutique style brands or companies.  I have always liked the quality and style of design usually associated with boutiques.  They are usually designed with the rustic worn and usually personal feel.  This is a business card I was happy to design for a boutique called Acentos de Mexico, located in Auburn Ca.  They sell Mexican Goods that are hand picked and imported strait from Mexico.  If you ever want to stop by their shop, it is located in Old Town Auburn Ca. on Sacramento Street.

Graphic Design Auburn – Design Process & Art Direction

The process and art direction of a design concept takes a lot more work and time than the average person may think.  This business card looks simple when looking at the final printed piece.  But there were a lot of conceptual reasons and thought processes that went into this simple graphic design auburn layout.  These business cards were printed on recycled kraft stock for a vintage look and feel.  They have a simple bright colored logo which gives a good contrast when printed on top of the brown kraft stock.  Distressing around the edges gives these business cards a more rustic and worn out look and feel to match the style and branding of the Acentos de Mexico boutique.  It is always a fun project when designing for a local business whether big or small.  Progressive Graphic design Auburn California.
